Re: Unpredictable connection behavior -- reliable solution?
This is getting embarassing ... every time I think I'm discovering a pattern and learning something, it disappears and everything seems totally random and I'm back to square one. Having some extra time today, I downloaded WaterRoof and played around both 1. with my "Security"/"Firewal...

Re: Unpredictable connection behavior -- reliable solution?
Researching further on port management ("open port"/"close port" seem like they might be the terms I need to search with[?]), the google results I'm getting seem to point to the firewall as the place to influence port behavior (you may think "duh," but please remember, ...

Re: Unpredictable connection behavior -- reliable solution?
Hi Kasbah, Thanks for your last reply (which I’d somehow overlooked until today). I just wrote a long reply which I lost due to having been logged out. I'll attempt a short-form version. Hopefully useful, but maybe not. 1. Performance: went well, BUT the GUI connection issue came back to haunt me at...

Re: Unpredictable connection behavior -- reliable solution?
Sorry to have been so long myself! (had a rather long phase where I couldn't devote any time to this part of my music making) Thank you very much for your reply! A big stumbling block was my total ignorance of command line syntax and standard commands (having even forgotten the meaning of "cd,&...

Re: Unpredictable connection behavior -- reliable solution?
I did, by the way, try entering into terminal what was suggested in other threads on this topic, both with and without SL running (though maybe these aren't applicable to my situation, and I haven't been able to find a definition for "-H", etc., so I have no idea what these things actually...

Unpredictable connection behavior -- reliable solution?
Hello, all. I’ve been asked to post this to the board, and will try to do so as coherently as I'm able (my apologies if some of this sounds maddeningly ignorant). For starters, my standard setup: Mac OS X (10.6.8) Sooperlooper v 1.6.18 AU Lab (hosting SL as an audio unit) Midi Patchbay External fire...

Re: loading loops
Just to update this issue; it's been a while ...after I last wrote, I soon noticed one pretty definite trigger for the connection issue: sometimes I start the computer and the software, start working and then notice that my ethernet cable is plugged in (which gives me some hum, perhaps because my ro...

Re: loading loops
Would be interesting to learn what you find out, if you happen to do so! To that end ... just on the off chance that it's relevant or otherwise useful to know (I suspect it's not...), I should mention that there was one more difference in what I did: typically, Midi Patchbay is already running when ...

Re: loading loops -- problem solved
Update: solution found (and I haven't a clue why). In order not to be an idiot doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results, I decided to try shaking things up by playing around with changing my computer's name in the filesharing preferences. Basically just on a whim. So ... ol...

Re: loading loops
Thanks very much for your reply, kasbah! Sure, here's what I get: /etc/hosts file reads as follows: 127.0.0.1 localhost 255.255.255.255 broadcasthost ::1 localhost fe80::1%lo0 localhost When I combine port 10051 (on the right) with 127.0.0.1 in the host field and tell it to connect, it immediately c...

Re: loading loops
Kasbah: do you happen to know off the top of your head a smilar quick fix for the same problem when SL is used as an AU (in AU Lab) on a Mac? For me, SL will work fine for weeks and then suddenly, something will change such that it constantly starts with no connection. Manually entering the defaults...

Re: MIDI to SL in AULab
So, with my equipment and myself having slept for a night... ...today I powered everything up and started AULab. Opened my RME document. Went to start Sooperlooper. The Plugin didn't find the standalone program on its own. But once I pointed it in the right direction and opened the GUI, I went to th...

MIDI to SL in AULab
Greetings Jesse, greetings all, Every time I finally figure out something that's had me stumped, I realize anew just how good, simple, stable and unproblematic (and worth a donation) SL is. But the devils in the details getting various things to work together ... you know the story. Anyway, each new...

Re: Roland FC-300 MIDI bindings
Ok, without a further shot or file being necessary, I can also say that what the Roland thinks to be a 1, 2, 3, etc. is understood by SL to be a 0, 1, 2, etc. respectively. Both in Standard Mode and in Patch Mode. The "how do we count" (1-128 or 0-127) thing, I'll assume... And: Standard M...

Re: Roland FC-300 MIDI bindings
So, just taught myself how to do a screenshot on a Mac ... a bit too much confusion at once... Anyway, this is what the Roland evidently does when you press the left-most of the program change pedals (marked "1/6") when set to the first bank and in Standard mode. You're looking at exactly ...

Re: Roland FC-300 MIDI bindings
Hey, Thanks for the suggestion ... I'll try it today! Since I wrote, I've sort of taught myself to write rudimentary patches on the Roland (strictly PC messages; even that is a royal pain in the ***, but at least I can name the pedals that way...) -- SL doesn't seem to be receiving the same numbers ...

Roland FC-300 MIDI bindings
Hello, all... I play an usually-acoustic, classical instrument, and I'm very new to software looping and MIDI, as well as to Mac OS. And I often do things in the wrong order. One of the first pieces of equipment that I bought was a Roland FC-300, which I would like to control my effects unit (Eventi...
