He forgot his loop pedal, so he used SL

A friend of mine was starting on a 7 date tour. He forgot his boss loop pedal. So I set him up with my pedal. Here are some segments:

First SooperLooper performance

I decided to play with a fried coming through town. I've been experimenting with SL over the past few months, but just got a 'comprehensive' setup working which could mostly be controlled from my hardware. It's all improvised - so I'm flying by the seat of my pants - fun! http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Re: Trouble with fcb1010 and Ableton

Actually, Mainstage seems to not like SL - spitting out errors about drivers that need to be updated. I found a post saying that if you turn off your midi controllers and start up MS, things are fine. That works, but you lose your mappings. I think I'm settling on Logic for now....although I can't g...

Re: Trouble with fcb1010 and Ableton

The first thing was happening with all midi events, but I do believe that notes seemed to transmit always. CCs did the one time thing. This problem only happens in Ableton - in my 14 day trial...down to 11 days now. I haven't used Ableton for a few years - and never with SL. Logic and mainstage don'...

Re: Trouble with fcb1010 and Ableton

Ok, the midi router setup worked the first time I did it. Now it will not! I'm also seeing multiple midi outputs and/or inputs for SL like SooperLooperAU_1 , _2 , _3 The only way to get rid of these is by a reboot. And I did see the same behavior again with the footcontroller presses showing up on t...

Trouble with fcb1010 and Ableton

Ok, I'm about to go nuts, I've been messing with this for hours now. I've set SL up as an effect on an audio track. I've added a midi track with the input from my footboard going to the audio track. I've pressed the 'in' button on both. I've loaded up my SL preferences. I press record and it records...

Re: Live vs. SL

I don't see why this cannot work for you.

Set SL to send a start message on the first recorded loop.

Set Live to follow external sync.

Use a midi router to send midi and control data to ableton from the SooperLooperAU_OUT

Re: Live vs. SL

I don't think that live has sound on sound recording - until the next version anyway. Perhaps I'm mistaken, but I think not. The new version of live will have an audio looper, but it will be one track. I assume you could add another looper track and rig up your foot control to control switching trac...

Re: Live vs. SL

Strictly using SL requires you to stop loop one at a time, which dictates that your song must fade out somehow at the end, or else each of your performers has a footswitch to stop their respective loops.
You can map one button to mute all tracks.

It's a link at the bottom of the main documentation page - easily missed I suppose.

Re: Syncing, quantization? wtf

I don't have experience with linux, although my brother is getting a laptop going with the ubuntu studio packages. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuStudio/PackageList You should be able to use a midi sequencer or DAW (digital audio workstaion) to send midi clock to sooperlooper. The listed DAW is Ardou...

I neglected to replace the AU, so that was the problem. Everything seems to be running very nicely.

my solution

I ended up figuring this out a while back but didn't post it.

I believe I had the 'main in' checkbox checked and that was causing it.

Re: MIDI Start

>>But wait, are you saying that the act of switching the 'sync to' value actually sends the midi start? Yes, exactly, and that's the only way I can get it to fire. And it only does it when switching to host and again when switching to loop1. Not loop2, etc. And loops are the only things we sync to b...

MIDI Start

We had a chance to try out the MIDI start option yesterday. I have the SL AU out midi going out of a midi interface to a pc running Ableton Live. My friend has Live stopped at 0 and when I trigger a loaded clip, nothing happens for him. the only way I can get something to happen is to change the syn...

Re: After installing .12, Midi bindings no longer work.

Did it lose the settings somehow? You might try saving the prefs in .11 and open with .12 .

I just noticed the 'default midi' file pref box and set that up...so maybe that did the same thing for me.

Re: Version 1.6.12 Released

The filetype binding is working great in OS X - within Mainstage and standalone.

I'm still getting the same behavior when opening files though - with the recording and playing. The loops are also out of time until all loops play through once. Let me know if I can help out in anyway.

Re: FCB1010 programming w/ Sooper Looper

The chip lets you program the unit solely from the computer, you don't have to set the pedal to receive a sysex message. I also enables something called stompbox mode. You can also program the pedal to send midi notes - which is what I needed.

Re: Mainstage/SL problems

That is a good way to simplify - running splits in the exs24. I don't really use exs24 very much live, aside from piano. I usually use an ES2 patch or 3rd party such as Garritan Personal Orchestra or the GForce Mellotron plugin. The biggest risk for me is the whole computer crashing, or midi keyboar...

Re: Mainstage/SL problems

It's good - basically the only thing you can't do is get the floating keyboard split. Here are the basics: Create a new environment layer Create a new instrument for each midi controller you have. Run each instrument into a cable switcher - you control that switch to change patches. You can make mul...

Re: Mainstage/SL problems

You're very welcome, glad to be of help. AU-Lab ... looks interesting, although I could probably just do the same thing in logic. I used to do all of this in logic - it wasn't too hard to set up. The floating splits in MS are nice though - and it's much faster to get it set up in rehearsal. I don't ...
